Switches and buttons
They open and close the loop, on purpose.
Read first: A complete loop
A switch is just a controlled gap in the loop. Push it one way, the gap closes and current flows. Push it the other way, the gap opens and current stops.
Switch vs button
Switch
Stays where you put it. Flip it on, walk away, it stays on. Like the light switch on a wall.
Button
Only works while you press it. Let go, it springs back. Like a doorbell.
Both do the same job in the loop. Pick whichever one matches what you want — a flashlight wants a switch (on until you decide off), a doorbell wants a button (only while pressed).
You want a buzzer that only beeps while a hand is pressing a button. What do you reach for?
Now you understand…
- Switch = stays. Button = only while pressed.
- Both work the same way: open or close the loop.
- Choose by behaviour, not size.
Time to meet a part that briefly stores electricity.
